Albert Gore Research Center: Exhibits

While working as a Graduate Assistant at the Albert Gore Research Center (AGRC), I participated in the creation of two exhibits for the reading room. Working together with the other three Graduate Assistants at the AGRC, I helped research, design, and ultimately create the two exhibits.

Veteran's History: Global Stories, Individual Perspectives

This exhibit features a large world map that demonstrates the diaspora of American military service over the past seventy-five years. We chose over forty oral history excerpts to represent the holdings of the AGRC, and also exemplify the individualized experiences of Americans in service. Each excerpt is linked to a place on the map, which we intended to help patrons visualize the plethora of locations that Americans have served in various capacities.

Warriors with Words and Faith: Marion Coleman Peck and Donald Price

This exhibit focuses on the lives of Marion Coleman Peck, the first newswoman to cover large-scale military actions, and Donald Price, a West Point graduate and veteran of the Vietnam War from Lebanon, Tennessee. Together, the graduate assistants created a thematic exhibit that tells a story of service at home and overseas, through both military and civilian positions. We planned the exhibit's layout, composed interpretive text, selected objects and photographs, conducted social media outreach, and coordinated with MTSU's Creative and Visual Services on the design of the exhibit. The finalized exhibition consists of five panels, an exhibit case with several objects, and handouts with additional materials such as letters, newspaper articles, and photographs pertaining to the exhibit. It can be seen on the walls of the research room at the AGRC.
